The Montessori House Elementary Program Includes:

Lower Elementary
1st – 3rd Grade (6-9 years)

Upper Elementary
4th – 6th Grade (9-12 years)

For both, Lower & Upper Elementary, the Montessori classroom is a mixed-aged environment that is designed to cultivate minds and encourage the moral/social development of students.

As an AMS Verified School, the elementary program at Montessori House builds knowledge-based intelligence through an in-depth study of the world and how it works. Students explore a variety of subjects, individually and collaboratively, throughout Montessori’s inquiry-based curriculum. Designed to spark imagination and engage their intellect, a Montessori elementary school education develops sound reasoning and thinking skills.

Montessori Elementary Program

A verified Montessori elementary program adheres to the principals developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that brings together disparate subjects into a unified whole. Our Montessori elementary curriculum is integrated with a hands-on approach that includes experiential learning of history, geography, biology, language, math, science, art, music, and culture. And to meet their needs and for the benefit of society, we  strive to build integrity and compassion through discussions of cultural, global, and environmental projects.

Spanish Program for Elementary Students

Spanish and English are the primary languages of the Elementary Community. Lessons are presented primarily in English, except for the Spanish language curriculum and supplement materials. Native Spanish-speaking guides converse interchangeably between Spanish and English. Spanish class is incorporated into the program, as well as Nature Education, Physical Education, and the Arts.

Class Trip to Nature's Classroom

To provide students with opportunities to learn about and experience the natural environment, the Montessori elementary program uses the natural world to provide students with learning opportunities that cannot be replicated in a classroom setting. Teachers emphasize experiential education, a holistic approach to learning and fosters students’ academic, social and personal growth.

Students in the Upper Elementary Class participate in a five-day trip each year to the Nature’s Classroom Institute (NCI) in New Ulm, TX. The program and trip help students understand the natural environment, participate in ecosystem discovery, and collaborate with their peers and teachers. The program centers on active academic lessons that include group challenges to boost confidence, historical simulations, and scientific exploration. A visit to NCI is an exceptional experience. Through nature, students develop a sense of community, confidence in themselves as well an appreciation for others after living and learning together at Nature’s Classroom. Dr. Maria Montessori's Cosmic Education

Cosmic Education is introduced through Five Great Lessons, an important and unique part of the Montessori education. The goal is to foster a meaningful understanding how subject matters and topics are interconnected and encourage the development of a whole individual.

The lessons are broad foundation for future study. They are designed to inspire their wonder for creation, appreciate the inventiveness and innovation of the human spirit, and spark their imagination and curiosity with new ideas.

THE BEGINNING
The first lesson weaves a tale of the origins of the universe and our planet. Using impressionistic charts and experiments directly related to the basic physical properties of matter, a foundation is made for the future study of physics, chemistry, astronomy, and geology.

THE TIMELINE OF LIFE
The timeline represents the beginnings of life on Earth, from the simplest forms through the appearance of human beings. Each organism is presented as a contributor to a vast, ineffable cosmic scheme.

THE COMING OF HUMANS
Continuing the exploration of life on Earth, this timeline stresses the development of humans from the earliest beings through the use of tools.

THE HISTORY OF WRITING
This lesson explores the development of writing from its appearance in primitive cultures to its role in modern society.

THE HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS
Montessori elementary programs explore the use of mathematics as an expression of the refinement of the human mind and as a response to individual and shared needs.
